  1. Bloodline by James Rollins (audiobook version)—yet another great book in the Sigma series, this one changed the game for the way the series will function. Huge revelations! Loved it. ****

  2. Invisible Man by Ellison—This is a great book that we read in my African American Lit class. Teaching this book was an absolute pleasure. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend that you do! *****

  3. Payback’s a Witch (kindle version)—This one started out slow, but by the end I was so into it I preordered the sequel. If you like magic-oriented fiction and are into LGBT reads, I recommend it. ***

  4. For Colored Girls Who Have Committed Suicide/ When the Rainbow is Enuf—Good Lord, I forgot how heavy this read is. But teaching it was absolutely a great decision. The women in the room really felt heard, the men learned a great deal. *****

  5. The Fine Print (kindle version)—So, I read this because a couple of my YouTubers recommended it. They said it was spicy. That was an understatement. But it was still good enough that I bought the next book in the series. ***

  6. White Rage by Carol Anderson: This was my second time finishing this excellent text on the history of racism in America. I taught this book for my African American lit class and my students and I learned so much. Highly recommend! (P.S. I’ve met Carol Anderson—she’s the best.) *****

  7. The Eye of God by James Rollins: I’m not going to lie, I was angry and heartbroken with the end of this book. But the book itself is probably one of the best in the Sigma Force Series. The stakes are higher, the characters more brilliant, and the plot is beautiful. I know I’m a Sigma Force junkie, but seriously, this book makes the whole series worth reading.  ****

  8. YouTurn: Get Unstuck, Discover your Direction and Design your dream career by Ashley Stahl: I started this book over a year ago and finally remembered to come back and reread the beginning. I think that for anyone who is having a hard time deciding next steps, this is a great and helpful read. And even for me, who has just gotten the dream job, this was a great and helpful read. ****

  9. Kindred by Octavia Butler: One of my favorite books, I read this one with my kiddos in the African American Lit class at ECC. It was so good to revisit this text during this particular moment in history. *****
