My Writing
One Year Ago: Unbreakable Willy Women: With Love to our Littlest on your Graduation (Popery, Pens, and Paperbacks): I wrote this almost a year ago for my little cousin on her graduation. It's so good to be part of a long line of strong women.
Two Years Ago: My Thoughts on the UD Commencement Speaker (PPP): As we go through yet another hullabaloo at UD, it's good to remember that we have often made asses of ourselves before the world...
Three Years Ago:
- Love for the Journey (Spiritual Uprising Magazine): A reflection on my relationships with the sisters.
- Hannah Coulter by Wendell Berry (PPP): My reflection on one of my favorite books of all time.
What I read this week:
Popery (Catholicism/Spirituality/Religion):
A Prayer For The Days You Feel Insignificant (Thought Catalogue): While Thought Catalogue is the last place I would usually look to for spiritual things, I do love this prayer.
Czeslaw Milosz On Reading The Gospels In Greek (Travis Wright): I adore this poem and completely agree with Milosz.
Jesus Was a Protester (Sojo): Something to keep in mind.
Social Justice Is a Christian Tradition — Not a Liberal Agenda (Sojo): Another thing to consider.
Pens/Pencils/Stationery:
An Additional Bullet Symbol for your Bullet Journal (Tiny Ray of Sunshine): I've recently started Bullet Journaling and I thought that this note was helpful.
Who knew there was so much crap in my head? (From the Pen Cup): One of my daily goals is to journal. So far, I haven't been successful, but I'm hoping that eventually this will be my experience. I think it would be so helpful to get all that out of my head!
Paperbacks (Reading, Books, and Writing):
Destined To Write (Writer Unboxed): I understand what the author means by feeling that his writing was destined. What about you?
Host a Silent Reading Party in 7 Easy Steps (Book Riot): I'm pretty sure I've shared this before, but Honestly, I need this in my life!
8 Literary Shower Curtains to Make your Bathroom Look like a Library (Book Riot): Because why not?
Speculative Fiction in Translation: Finland (Book Riot): I need to read these!
The 2017 Minimalist Summer Reading Guide (Modern Mrs. Darcy): Although I'm always too busy with school to read her picks, I love Anne's great selections.
Life in General:
Easily distracted or can’t finish what you started? Try this! (The Art of Simple): Have any of you tried the Pomodoro technique? I think it sounds like a great way to get stuff done without getting distracted (which is a HUGE problem for me!)
Interest span vs attention span (Modern Mrs. Darcy): Everyone's favorite book and lifestyle blogger poses a great question about whether or not it's our interest or attention span that's getting shorter. I think she makes a great point. This is a good read.
Finding Room to Breathe (Ordinary Days): Here's to finding the gaps, friends.
What can you do in 30 hours?: More than you might think. (Katie Linder): I like this idea--seeing what I can do in an hour each day and, more importantly, staying accountable on social media. I might have to start this up.
10 Easy Ways To Make Work Less Stressful Today (The Financial Diet): All of these help me, especially hydrating and standing up!
20 Little Things I’ve Realized Life Is Too Short For (The Financial Diet): I. LOVE. THIS. I really struggle with some of these and it's good to have the reminder!
Money:
How We Wiped Out $52,000 Of Debt In 7 Months (The Financial Diet): So, in a way, I feel like this is cheating because they were able to literally sell much of the stuff that caused the debt in the first place, thereby paying it off faster. But still, this is a good inspirational story about paying off debt!
8 Characteristics of People Who Are Successful At Getting Out Of Debt (Becoming Minimalist): Great things to think about in terms of characteristics to develop.
Academia, Education, and Teaching:
I Am a Dangerous Professor (NYT): #Lifegoals.
Simplicity and Minimalism:
- 8 bits of plastic you can quit right now (Sarah Wilson): I've given up most of these, but it's always good to have a reminder!
8 Audacious Ways The Women's Clothing Industry Is Scamming You (Fashion Beans): Some good things to think about.
An exercise in uncluttering: books and magazines (Unclutterer): I have often baulked at the idea of cleaning out my books, but lately I have found it more appealing. I'm separating with many of my collection and am not buying anymore. I have successfully entered bookstores and sales many times recently, leaving empty handed. It's a start.
Parenting and Kiddos:
12 Inspiring STEM Books for Girls (Edutopia): Not going to lie, I want some of these!
Animals
Here Are 28 Totally Enormous Cats That Make Their Humans Look Like Ants (Boredom Therapy): While I'm usually a dog person, I would like to give these kitties a snuggle!
